POLAND — Village Council took care of a few items to kick off 2025 at its Tuesday meeting.

Among the items was approving a software fee. Council first discussed the fee and was informed that it was for misleading software.

“The Village does not have a mayor’s court,” said Mayor Tim Sicafuse. “We have a violations bureau, but it runs on mayor’s court software.”

He said the software is needed for the violations bureau to operate. The cost of the software is $1,907 and is payable to the Baldwin Group. The expenditure was unanimously approved.

Village Streets Commissioner George Porterfield said the village has used up half of its road salt so far. He said last year, the area had 7 inches of snow.

“This year, we are already at 21 inches,” he said.

In other business:

• Approval was given to advance $370.65 from the general fund to the forest trail connector fund to pay for engineering fees.

• Council agreed to pay Farmer’s Bank $30 per month for a “positive pay” program. The program is an online system for monitoring expenditures.

• Council approved the purchase order and payment to EDG for engineering services in the amount of $1,214.62.

• Council held a second reading involving the adoption of the Mahoning County Hazard Mitigation Plan for 2024-28.

Starting at $2.99/week.
