Struthers council extends parking ban

STRUTHERS — City council at its meeting Wednesday passed an amended ordinance to extend the prohibition of vehicles parked on lawns, grass or landscaped areas to include motor vehicles, recreational vehicles and boats.

This includes fifth-wheel trailers, motorhomes and park trailers. The amendment will go into effect immediately.

Exceptions to the ordinance include if the vehicle is in use by a business for profit making, moving to or from a residence, for family gatherings, as an emergency vehicle during an emergency or a construction vehicle being used for remodeling or repair work at that property. A recreational vehicle or boat may be parked for no more than three hours for loading and unloading purposes only.

Council also passed four emergency measures:

•Revised the regulations concerning residential rental licenses, changing the expiration date from Dec. 31 to 365 days from the date of issue.

•Adopted the collective bargaining agreement between the city and the Ohio Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, which represents all full-time dispatchers.

•Creation of a part-time maintenance position for the city administration building, paying an hourly rate of $16.

•Support of the Ohio Municipal League’s challenge of AT&T’s tariff application to require municipalities to pay the full cost of relocation or undergrounding of its facilities within the public right of way, regardless of reason.

Mayor Catherine Cercone Miller also wanted to remind everyone that Wetmore Drive will be closed for bridge replacement for up to 150 days as of Jan. 13.

Starting at $2.99/week.
