Lake Milton Brewery thriving by diversifying

Beer, wine, seltzers, bourbons and whiskeys on the menu

Staff report

LAKE MILTON — The suds flow every Thursday, Friday and Saturday along Mahoning Avenue at the township’s Lake Milton Brewery.

Owners Donny and Lori Loveless said they have developed a path of quality spirits since opening in 2020 that draws customers. Joining the crafted beer are homemade wine and crafted seltzer. Bulking up the shop’s stores are more than 65 brands of bourbons and whiskeys in addition to domestic brews.

“I was a home brewer,” Donny Loveless said. “I did well in a contest. I decided to open my own business.”

The union ironworker used his skills to open the brewery at 17762 Mahoning Ave. and transform an old community center.

“I built the bar and everything in it,” he said. “All the equipment and everything that goes along with it, and put in the brewery and winery.”

The start of the COVID-19 pandemic dampened the brewery’s opening. The couple, who are the business’ lone employees, overcame that obstacle to build their brand.

“We are the only brewery, winery, seltzer and bourbon bar in Lake Milton, and we are not closed,” Loveless said.

A story published in Wednesday’s edition of The Vindicator implied the brewery had closed.

Wife and business partner, Lori, handles the bourbon portion of the business in addition to social media and the brewery’s business accounts. Since being added a year ago, the bourbon bar has impressed the clientele.

“People from Youngstown to Akron that come in here are amazed at the different bourbons we do have,” she said. “Becoming a bourbon bar has been something special. It’s really worked out for us.”

Featured drinks and specialty nights are presented weekly. The owners also have a pickleball court for enthusiasts.

Starting at $2.99/week.
