Officers investigate Sunday gunfire in city
YOUNGSTOWN — Gunfire was reported at Fifth and Broadway avenues on the North Side on Sunday afternoon, but no injuries were mentioned in a Youngstown police report.
Officers were called to the area at 4:37 p.m. They located “numerous spent casings from various guns in the northbound lanes in front of (a redacted address) on Fifth Avenue,” the report states.
Officers shut down the northbound curb lane to preserve the evidence, as crime scene investigators were called out to investigate, the report states.
Officers said they learned that two black vehicles were being followed by a gray vehicle headed north. Once the vehicles got near a nursing home, the four occupants of the gray vehicle began shooting at the black vehicles in front of them before making a U-turn and fleeing south on Fifth Avenue with the occupants still firing their weapons, the report states.
Investigators noted there were 9 millimeter, .40 caliber, 7.62 and 5.56 spent casings at the scene. They were collected and entered into evidence, the report states. The report states that the identity of the suspects was “unknown” at the time the report was written.
