NILES — The State Fire Marshal was called early Saturday to a fatal fire at a home on Trumbull Drive.

A Niles Fire Department spokesman said the identity of the victim has not yet been released. Crews responded at 1:30 a.m. to the 300 block of Trumbull Drive with the home fully engulfed by flames when they arrived. The home was destroyed.

The spokesman said neighbors of the victim called 911 when they saw flames coming from the house. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal and the Niles Fire Department.

This was the third fire fatality in the area this year. A 5-year-old boy was killed Jan. 26 in a fire on North Maryland Avenue in Youngstown. Two days later, Jan. 28, one person was killed in a fire on Bonnie Brae Avenue NE in Warren.
