TCTC approves contracts for building addition

CHAMPION — With work to begin soon on a planned addition to the southeastern section of the Trumbull Career and Technical Center building, the board has approved contracts relating to the work.

The TCTC board gave the green light to the Brewer-Garrett Co. for the commissioning contract, which involves reviewing, verifying and documenting that the specified equipment components and systems have been designed and installed properly, started up and functionally tested to proper operation.

The addition will house industrial technology classes, STEAM programs and a health clinic.

Treasurer Cody Holecko said the contract was negotiated for $33,000 and consists of commissioning services for $22,800 and testing and air balancing for $10,200.

Holeko said the $7 million project is being covered with $5.12 million in the Appalachian Community Innovation Center grants program and $2.5 million from the Ohio Career Technical Equipment grant, of which $1 million is left after equipment and furnishings for the rooms were purchased.

He said TCTC will be spending about $750,000 of its own money. Holeko said the project has been put out for bid, which should be coming in shortly.

Superintendent Jason Gray said the DeSalvo Construction Company is the construction manager for the new 13,800-square-foot addition. He said the project is expected to be completed by summer 2026.

The added programs will be located inside the newly built area on the east side of the building near the wood trades and carpentry program.

The TCTC board previously approved MCS & Associates consulting services for the addition at $43,000.

Gray said that firm will help ensure everything is done on time, efficiently and at a cost savings.

The American Rescue Plan established the Capital Projects Fund and appropriated $10 billion for funding crucial capital projects. The state was awarded more than $268.5 million in funding.

Starting at $2.99/week.
