2 teens face charges in adult court
One juvenile indicted on attempted murder, aggravated robbery
YOUNGSTOWN — Two juveniles were arraigned Tuesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court and are being held on bonds of $500,000 and $250,000 after both were indicted in adult court Feb. 27 on charges that include attempted murder and aggravated robbery.
Each could get decades in adult prison if convicted.
Nabil A. Allan, 17, was arraigned on charges of aggravated robbery and two counts of attempted murder, all with gun specifications for incidents on two different dates in 2024. Mahoning County Juvenile Court Judge Theresa Dellick bound Allan’s case over to adult court Jan. 31.
Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge Anthony D’Apolito kept Allan’s bond at $500,000 Tuesday after Allan pleaded not guilty to the charges. He could get more than 30 years in prison if convicted.
The two counts of attempted murder stem from an Aug. 11 incident on Robinwood Place near Dupont Street on the North Side. A Youngstown police report states they were called there at 7:08 p.m. for “a large group of people fighting and large pieces of hair weaving were observed in the roadway,” according to a Youngstown police report.
One victim in Allan’s two attempted murder indictments is a juvenile. The age of the other victim was redacted from Allan’s indictment.
A dispatcher told police officers that two people were victims of gunfire and were transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital by private vehicle. They suffered serious injuries.
Allan’s aggravated robbery charge stemmed from a Feb. 15 incident, but no records are available on what that incident involved.
SECOND JUVENILE
The other juvenile who was arraigned Tuesday is Derrick Darrington, 16, who was indicted Feb. 27 on aggravated robbery with a firearm specification and two counts of felonious assault with firearm specifications for three offenses July 27 on Woodcrest Avenue on the East Side.
Darrington pleaded not guilty, and D’Apolito kept his bond at $250,000. If Darrington is convicted, he could also get about 30 years in prison. Dellick bound over his case to adult court Jan. 15.
The same juvenile was the victim in all three alleged crimes, according to Darrington’s indictment. In a 9:09 p.m. incident, officers responded to Woodcrest for a shooting and learned that a male was shot inside a home, according to a police report. Officers provided aid until ambulance personnel arrived, and the male was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
The scene was turned over to detectives and crime scene personnel, the report states.
