AG’s office sues Boardman home decor retailer

BOARDMAN — A luxury home decor business with two Boardman locations has been sued in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court after more than 350 consumer complaints and losses exceeding $380,000 were reported.
In a news release Wednesday, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost alleged Burke Decor and its owner, Erin Elizabeth Burke, failed to provide furnishings that had been paid for already.
The suit lists Burke’s home address as 6411 Ivarene Ave., Los Angeles.
Yost said his office launched an investigation into the business last year after receiving consumer complaints regarding nondelivery, slow delivery and difficulties with obtaining refunds.
“Consumers paid for high-end furnishings but ended up with only frustration.” Yost said. “My office gave this company the opportunity to make this right, but empty promises don’t fill homes.”
Burke Decor operates physical locations on U.S. Route 224 and Market Street in Boardman and one in Los Angeles. The company also sells furnishings on BurkeDecor.com.
Yost said Burke Decor initially cooperated in resolving consumer disputes, but 256 consumer complaints remain unresolved. Yost’s lawsuit seeks restitution for affected consumers, injunctive relief to prevent further deceptive practices and civil penalties.
Ohioans who believe they have been victims of unfair or deceptive practices can file a complaint with the Consumer Protection Section at www.OhioAttorneyGeneral.gov or by calling 1-800-282-0515.
Messages for comment were left with Burke’s legal representative in Youngstown and at the business’ Boardman location.
