Bond set for Boardman man involved in Liberty shooting

Staff report

LIBERTY — Bond was set at $250,000 for a Boardman man arrested by Liberty police after a reported shooting Friday at a gas station near Belmont Avenue and Gypsy Lane, according to court records.

Dennis Sklenchar, 31, of Frederick Street, appeared in Girard Municipal Court Monday where he pleaded not guilty to charges of felonious assault, having weapons under disability, tampering with evidence and concealed carry.

According to the police report, Trumbull County 911 advised police that shots were fired near the Belmont Avenue Fast Trac gas station and that the suspect was still in the area, in a nearby Walgreens parking lot, according to a witness.

The suspect, later identified as Sklenchar, attempted to flee from Liberty police while at gunpoint as Youngstown police were called to assist. He was eventually detained and officers checked him for weapons, where they found a Sig Sauer P365 with one magazine and three live rounds.

Youngstown officers, who eventually arrived, explained they received a call for service on Granada Avenue for a potential shooting victim.

Sklenchar is set to appear back in court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing. He is being held on house arrest, court records show.

Starting at $2.99/week.
