Canfield attorney’s law license suspended over child support default

Staff report

The law license of Matthew M. Lewis of Canfield was suspended for an interim period effective Friday after the director of the Board of Professional Conduct of the Ohio Supreme Court submitted a certified copy of a determination of default of child support order by Lewis to the Ohio Supreme Court.

That information was served on Lewis on Friday at an address on Indian Run Road in Canfield and at Lewis Law on Starr Center Drive in Canfield, according to the Ohio Supreme Court.

The filing states the matter also has been referred to the disciplinary counsel for investigation and the start of disciplinary proceedings against Lewis.

It means that Lewis “effective immediately” is “forbidden to counsel, advise or prepare legal instruments for others or in any manner perform legal services for others.”

He is also ordered “divested of each, any and all rights, privileges and prerogatives customarily accorded to a member in good standing of the legal profession of Ohio,” the filing states.

He cannot be reinstated to the practice of law until the Board of Professional Conduct files a certified copy of a judgment entry containing certain information, the filing states. The filing is signed by Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Sharon Kennedy.

Starting at $2.99/week.
