Insight Hospital gets new leader

WARREN – A new leader will guide Insight Hospital and Medical Center Trumbull as the facility looks to resolve new-patient admission issues.

Dr. Gray Goncz has replaced Cindy Russo, who became president of the former Trumbull Regional Medical Center on July 1, 2022. The health care provider announced the change Wednesday.

Other than to acknowledge they were parting ways, reasons for Russo’s departure were not provided.

“We extend our gratitude to Cindy Russo for her years of service and the numerous contributions she made as a hospital executive in the region and specifically as president at Trumbull,” Insight said in a news release. “Her leadership and dedication made a lasting impact on the hospital and the community.”

While remaining chief medical officer, Goncz was named president and chief restructuring officer.

Insight cited his professional excellence and community roots.

The change comes as Insight Hospital and Medical Center Trumbull has halted new patient admissions, except in behavioral health cases.

A development in the former owner’s bankruptcy case forced Insight to institute changes.

Steward Health Care ended its transition services agreement with Insight when it sold the services to a third-party provider. Insight officials said they were not included in the decision.

“Despite repeated attempts to resolve the issues, no agreement was reached,” an Insight spokesperson said. “We have exhausted all options of resolution.”

The hospital’s emergency room remains in operation 24 hours daily.

All outpatient services continue to be offered. They include outpatient surgery, cardiac cath

procedures, imaging, lab and rehabilitation. Insight Health Center, Austintown, and Insight Health Center, Elm Road, will provide outpatient services.

Insight Rehabilitation Hospital Hillside continues to offer all inpatient and outpatient services at

the main campus as well as at its Austintown and Cortland outpatient locations.

Warren Mayor Doug Franklin said he was aware changes were possible.

“The city has maintained strong communications within Insight leadership, both corporate and locally,” Franklin said. “We were made aware of the possibility of a structured realignment of our local facilities.

“The city will remain supportive during this process period.”

State Rep. Nick Santucci, R-Niles, said in a statement that he encourages Insight officials to work with state agencies.

“My office has been in communication with hospital representatives to stay informed about the situation and understand the impact on our community,” he wrote.

“I encourage Insight to work closely with the Ohio Department of Health to identify solutions that will allow the state to provide necessary support.”
