Liberty moves forward with new scoreboard
LIBERTY — Students and parents attending games in the high school’s gymnasium next school year might notice something new regarding game information.
The board approved the purchase and installation of a new indoor scoreboard for Liberty High School through Formetco, a Georgia-based audiovisual equipment supplier, at their meeting Monday.
The scoreboard, totaling $64,560 for its purchase and installation, includes a high-definition 120-square foot LED display, a wireless control system, energy-efficient technology and a scoring console with fixed-digit scoreboards. It also will have customizable team logos and colors, an animation package and durable and weather-resistant materials, as well as a five-year parts warranty and one-year labor warranty.
The resolution states that the board recognizes the importance of providing adequate facilities and equipment to support the educational and extracurricular activities of both students and the community, noting that the scoreboard in use now is outdated and in need of replacement after being in use for 25 years.
The installation is expected to be completed by summer.
Liberty Schools Superintendent Brian Knight explained Tuesday that the scoreboard will give students who operate it the chance to earn industry-recognized credentials. The district also will use it to recognize staff and students, and provide local businesses with the opportunity to be showcased during all events held in the gymnasium, he added.
In other action, the board:
• Approved adopting special education model policies and procedures through the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, with modifications to their language.
• Approved an updated agreement between the district and the Trumbull County Educational Service Center to provide special education programs, related services and personnel for the 2025 and 2026 fiscal years. The contracts total $1.6 million and will be deducted from state foundation payments to the district for that fiscal year.
• Approved short-term unpaid leave for Literacy Coach Sunshine Craven from March 28 to March 31.
• Approved family medical leave for Melissa Leslie from March 24 to May 12.
• Approved stipends for spring athletic support staff for the 2024-25 school year.
• Approved moving Michael Pollifrone from night custodian and boiler operator to morning custodian and mechanic.
• Tabled any action on coaching resolutions for both the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school year.
