Man dies in early Monday shooting

30-year-old killed in club parking lot on Midlothian

YOUNGSTOWN — A man was killed in an early Monday shooting in the parking lot of the Vibez Bar, 914 E. Midlothian Blvd.

Police were called there at 2:20 a.m. for a report of a shooting in the parking lot. Officers found hundreds of people in the lot and a nearby area and were directed to Deandre Stores, 30, who appeared to have been shot several times, according to a Youngstown Police Department news release.

A Youngstown police report released later Monday stated that the victim was found in the passenger seat of a white auto and had numerous gunshot wounds. Officers provided life-saving measures until ambulance personnel arrived.

Ambulance personnel also attempted life-saving measures, but Stores died, the release states.

“Due to the large, unruly crowd,” officers from Boardman, Campbell and Struthers police were requested for assistance, the release and police report state.

The Youngstown police detective division and crime scene unit were sent to the scene, along with the Mahoning County Coroner’s office, and they began an investigation. No arrest has been made and the news release noted the investigation is in the “early stages.”

But “detectives know there were many people around who may have seen or heard something that could be crucial in helping solve this case, bring the suspect(s) to justice and allow the family to have closure,” the release states. “We are asking that anyone who was at the bar with the victim that evening to speak with detectives about this case.”

Tips leading to an arrest and / or prosecution are eligible for a monetary reward, the release states. Call Crime Stoppers at 330-746-2583 OR 330-742-8973 with information or tips, which may be left anonymously. Detective Sgt. Chad Zubal is the lead investigator.

This is the city’s third homicide of 2025 with the first one being the Jan. 10 shooting death of Brandon Ogden, 27, in the 2500 block of Ohio Avenue on the North Side.

Jonathon Simmons, 29, was indicted on a charge of murder with a firearm specification late last month in the case and could get a life prison sentence if convicted.

Youngstown police identified Simmons early on as the suspect, and Simmons was arrested in Milton Township on a warrant not long after the 11 p.m. homicide.

The second homicide of the year was the Jan. 24 shooting death of Resean Graham, 42, on Griselda Avenue on the South Side.

Kenneth Carter, 34, and Terry Hopkins, 22, are both charged with complicity to murder in Graham’s death, and their cases were bound over to a county grand jury.

OTHER VIBEZ INCIDENTS

Vibez was also the location where gunfire was reported at 3:39 a.m. May 25, 2024, which was a Saturday. One person arrived at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with gunshot wounds, possibly related to Vibez, where gunfire was reported about 3:30 a.m., police stated. Bullet shell casings were found in the parking lot, police stated, but the bar manager said he was unaware of any fights inside or outside of the club.

Marquan White, 25, was shot to death in the parking lot of Vibez on July 5, 2022, and three other people — ages 26, 19 and 20 — were wounded in the episode, according to news accounts at that time. White was found on the ground shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead later at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

And Calvin Moore, 27, was shot to death near the Vibe nightclub Dec. 12, 2021, with Johnnie McCall 31, being indicted on a charge of aggravated murder with a gun specification and other charges in the case. McCall has a pretrial hearing in the case today.

Youngstown police said Moore was found shot in a car in the Vibez parking lot, but there were no “problems in the bar.”
