Spring-project season takes root at Home & Garden Show in Canfield

CANFIELD — If all goes accordingly, Rick and Joanne Kale soon will be more easily moving up in the world, specifically, in their own Canfield home.
“We’re remodeling, and will have an elevator installation,” Rick Kale said.
“We like coming here to talk to the vendors to get ideas,” his wife added.
Suffice it to say that having ideas and a general blueprint in mind before embarking on such laborious work is essential. That’s also where attending the 74th annual Home & Garden Show on Friday entered the picture for the couple.
Hosting the three-day event is the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of the Valley.
Rick Kale said he has been highly pleased with the work done to his home and service he’s received from several of the more than 150 local and regional vendors, remodelers, landscapers, builders and contractors who have set up shop at the spring-themed event. They also make it an annual habit to attend, he added.
Like many who came to the gathering Friday, the couple is looking forward to saying goodbye to one season and ushering in the next one.
“We’re ready for spring and ready to get outside to do our projects,” Joanne Kale said.
Perhaps the most valuable aspect of attending the show Friday for Debbie Canan and her husband, Brian Canan, of Lordstown, was collecting ideas for an upcoming bathroom remodeling project to convert their bathtub to a shower.
“We’ve just started kicking around ideas,” Debbie Canan said, adding that she has no date set for the bathroom work to get underway.
In addition, Brian and Debbie Canan were planning to add self-adhesive lights to some of their gutters, a trend that seems to be catching on, Debbie Canan observed. Another major project at the couple’s home was a sunroom that a neighbor built for them last year, she continued.
Among the items for sale are shower doors, gutters and gutter guards, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning products, kitchenware, bathroom fixtures, patio furniture and enclosures, flooring, windows, siding, house plants, yard and garden stakes, dining sets and sunroom enclosures.
Also, vendor giveaways are at selected booths, and attendees will have a chance to win one of five $100 gift cards.
