Two homes shot up on South Side
YOUNGSTOWN — Two homes were shot up in the afternoon and evening earlier this week on the South Side, but no one was injured.
The first was on West Glenaven Avenue at 5:25 p.m. Monday when officers were called regarding a “stray bullet going through the residence,” according to a Youngstown police report.
Officers spoke to a resident, who showed the officer a kitchen window with a bullet hole in it.
The resident showed the officer that the bullet also hit a kitchen cabinet. The police department received a ShotSpotter notification for West Evergreen Avenue, which is one street north, a few minutes earlier, the officer noted in the report.
ShotSpotter notifies the police department of gunfire on the South Side.
The officer gave the resident an incident number for the resident to turn in to the landlord of the home, the report states.
At 11:36 p.m. Monday, police were alerted to three instances of gunfire on West Evergreen Avenue, also by ShotSpotter, according to a report.
As the officer was responding to the area, a person in a car driving on West Warren Avenue near Hillman Street flagged down an officer. The person said he or she was at the West Evergreen Avenue residence and saw the shooting.
The officer left to go to West Evergreen and saw spent bullet shell casings on the ground and a foregrip for a firearm in the road near West Evergreen and Oak Hill avenues. The officer also collected 17 spent bullet casings of one caliber and nine of another caliber, as well as the foregrip.
The officer saw six to eight bullet holes in the front of the house, which traveled into the living room and dining room.
