Warren man charged with burglary

Arrest stems from disturbance in Liberty neighborhood

LIBERTY — A Warren man appeared in court Thursday after being arrested at a Girard residence by Liberty police Wednesday morning.

Preston Hall, 31, was charged with burglary and criminal damaging.

According to the police report, officers were dispatched to Logan Arms Drive in reference to an ongoing burglary, where they were told a man was trying to break in and was being confronted by a male resident with a firearm.

When officers arrived, Hall, who lives up the street from the building and was walking across the road, explained he was trying to use the homeowner’s phone. The man pulled a gun out and threatened him, however, so he left.

The homeowner, Devin Bansberg, told officers he and his wife were trying to get ready for work when he opened their garage and found a blue Lowes bucket and tire chock in the back of his truck, which did not belong to him. When he went back into the garage, Hall was standing in front of him.

He confirmed Hall asked to use a phone, adding that he asked him to leave — but Hall refused. Bansberg said he had to physically remove Hall from the garage by pushing him out and shutting the garage door, but Hall began messing with the keypad on it and broke it, taking the battery out in the process.

Bansberg said Hall then started pounding on his front doors, which led him to get his firearm for protection and continued to tell Hall to leave.

Bansberg told officers Hall began threatening him, saying he had his number and that he knows where he lives. Hall also began jumping in the bed of his truck, he added.

The report states the officer spoke to a resident across the street with a security camera, who said while she didn’t have video camera footage, she did see Hall roaming the neighborhood. While she didn’t want anything done to him, she wanted officers to be aware that he was roaming the area.

Hall pleaded not guilty during his arraignment and is to return to court March 27.
