Weathersfield ratifies new teacher contract
WEATHERSFIELD — The Weathersfield Board of Education has ratified a new three-year agreement with the district’s teachers’ union.
Treasurer Steve Haynie said the new agreement will grant the 72 teachers in the union a 4% pay increase the first year (2025-26) 3% the second year (2026-27) and 3% the third year (2027-28).
Haynie said the Mineral Ridge Education Association also has ratified the new agreement effective July 15, 2025 to July 14, 2028. He said the new contract will cost the district $119,000.
The board next plans to begin negotiations with the classified workers represented by Ohio Association of Public School Employees, which represents cafeteria workers, bus drivers, secretaries and maintenance staff.
The board also accepted the retirement resignations of teachers Carrie Sankovich, elementary teacher, who has been with the district since 1990, and Lynn Flaviano, fifth-grade math teacher, who has been with the district since 2011. Both retirements are effective May 30.
Also the resignation of Julie Edwards, high school art teacher, was accepted effective March 19.
The board also is discussing what to do with the property and 10,000 square-foot building purchased earlier this year at 3729 Union St. for $525,000,
The property is on 2.5 acres of land southwest of the stadium and south of Mineral Ridge High School and was purchased from P&S Equities.
Superintendent Damon Dohar said the district would like to have the building for school administrative purposes and student services.
Officials said the building was previously used for office space.
