Woman who said she was pregnant jailed following assault

YOUNGSTOWN — A woman who said she was due “any day” to have a baby was taken to the Mahoning County jail after she was implicated in an assault on another woman outside of a home on Burlington Street on the North Side Monday evening.

Officers were called to the home at 6:43 p.m. for a group of people beating up one person. When officers arrived, they found the victim sitting on a mobility scooter bleeding from the face / head area, and an officer requested an ambulance.

A small pool of blood was located just outside the garage door. The suspect, 35, was not far away and showed signs of having been in a physical fight (dirty clothes, blood and scrapes on her hands and knuckles), the report states.

The officer had a hard time getting information from the victim because of her emotions, and the suspect interjected with comments about how the victim did not know the person who assaulted her and that the person who assaulted her had left, the report states.

The suspect was handcuffed and placed in a police cruiser while the officer continued to try to talk to the victim, who eventually told the officer that a woman she did not know started the fight, but the suspect also “jumped in and also started beating her.”

The officer learned from the suspect that she was pregnant, so the officer took off her handcuffs and requested another ambulance to the scene for the suspect. The officer asked the suspect if she had a specific doctor to contact, and she said no.

Because of the weight of the suspect, she did not appear to be pregnant, but she told the officer she was due to deliver the baby “any day now,” so she was taken to St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital and was told she would be charged in the assault on the victim.

The suspect was booked into the county jail Monday night and had not yet been released as of Tuesday, according to jail records. She had no new charges on file in Youngstown Municipal Court as of Tuesday evening.
