City man charged with shooting at car of mother of his children
YOUNGSTOWN — Alonzo Clark III, 29, was arraigned Monday on felonious assault in an incident early Sunday in which he is accused of firing a gun at the vehicle of the mother of his child as she drove from their home on Landsdowne Boulevard on the East Side as part of an argument.
Clark is set for a preliminary hearing at 9:15 a.m. Monday. If he is convicted, he could get about eight years in prison.
Police were called at 7:06 a.m. Sunday by a woman who said Clark, her live-in boyfriend, who is her children’s father, shot a gun at her car on Landsdowne Boulevard as she was driving away during a fight. Her car had seven bullet holes in the trunk, rear bumper and rear passenger side quarter panel, according to a Youngstown police report.
The woman said when she woke up Sunday, Clark had broken her phone, and she confronted him telling him to leave the home. He refused, so she went outside and got into her vehicle. She saw Clark walk out of the house with a gun, she said. He approached her vehicle and tried to open her car door, so she pulled out of the driveway quickly, side swiping Clark’s vehicle, which was parked in the driveway, the report states.
As she pulled away, she heard gunshots coming from Clark. She fled the area before calling 911, she said, according to the report. Their children, ages 7 and 1, remained in the home while this was happening, the woman reported.
The officer speaking to the woman went to the home, and officers were handcuffing Clark at the back door of the home. An officer asked Clark where the firearm was located, and he told them it was behind the garage. Officers found it inside a shirt in a tire in the area Clark mentioned.
Officers found eight spent bullet casings in the city trash can and one spent casing and two bullet fragments in the driveway. Clark was taken to the county jail. The two children were found to be healthy and free from harm and were turned over to their mother, the report states.
