City man finds tombstones while doing yard work
Staff report
YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Police Department is investigating after a resident of Youngstown Poland Road discovered three tombstones in his backyard Sunday afternoon. They were in the tree line.
The resident called police at 5 p.m. to report the find, saying he was doing yard work and found the tombstones, which were not on the property “last year,” according to a Youngstown police report.
An officer saw the tombstones, which he reported were “intact” with a placard with the name of the deceased person and birthdate of April 30, 1920. The two other tombstones also appeared to have placards but the placards were removed from those, the report states.
A towing company was called to come pick up the tombstones and collect them “as property found for a possible theft from a cemetery.”
