Man suffers broken leg after being hit by car
Staff report
YOUNGSTOWN — A man suffered an obvious leg injury Friday evening on Sunset Boulevard at Midlothian Boulevard on the South Side after being struck by a car.
A Youngstown police officer was on patrol on Midlothian when he saw the man on his back on Sunset Avenue at 8:56 p.m. The officer called for ambulance personnel and additional officers to respond.
While talking to the victim, the officer noticed a bone sticking out of the man’s leg. The man said someone in a red or burgundy SUV hit him, but he did not know the person. He described him as a light-skinned man wearing a burnt orange sweatshirt and white baseball cap. He said the driver hit him about five minutes earlier.
The victim said the driver got out of his car and asked the victim if he was OK and then “drove off before he could answer,” the report states. The victim said he did not see what direction the driver went.
Police were trying to obtain security video of the incident, but there was a power outage at about that time, and it was hampering efforts to determine that, the report states.
The officer followed the ambulance to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where the victim was diagnosed with a broken leg, the report states.
