Two crashes close Interstate 76
CANFIELD – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating two commercial vehicle-related crashes Thursday on Interstate 76.
The first crash took place approximately 7:30 a.m. on Interstate 76 eastbound near Bailey Road in Jackson Township. The second crash occurred at 10:08 a.m. on Interstate 76 near state Route 534 in Milton Township.
In the first crash, Tammy J. Geyer, 60, of Norwich, was stopped in traffic eastbound on Interstate Route 76 in the right lane in a 2018 Freightliner Cascadia tractor with a semitrailer.
Gregory H. Rood, 38 of Youngstown was eastbound on Interstate 76 in the right lane in a 2022 Mack MD truck. Allen E. Deibel, 45, of Youngstown was eastbound on Interstate Route 76 in the right lane in a 2023 Isuzu truck.
The report states Rood struck Geyer’s vehicle in the rear then Deibel struck Rood’s vehicle in the rear.
Geyer was transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with minor injuries.
Deibel’s passenger, Sawyer Cawley, 22 of Youngstown, was flown to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with serious injuries.
Interstate 76 eastbound was closed temporarily.
In the second crash, traffic was stopped due to the road closure. Michael A. Nagy, 68, of Fairfield was slowing in traffic eastbound in the right lane in a 2024 International Prostar tractor with a 2010 Great Dane semitrailer.Dillon Paris, 25 of Alliance, was eastbound on Interstate Route 76 in the right lane in a 2023 Dodge Ram truck.
Paris struck Nagy’s vehicle in the rear. Paris was transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with serious injuries. The report states Paris was distracted at the time of the crash.
