Barbara Ann Kennedy 1954-2022

TRABUCO CANYON, Calif. — Barbara Ann Kennedy, 68, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, passed away Monday, Aug. 15, 2022.

Barbara is survived by Robert Kennedy, her college sweetheart and husband of 47 years; daughters, Kristy (Josh) of Albany, Calif. and Julie (Michael) of San Jose, Calif.; two grandsons Judah and Silas; and father-in-law, John E. Kennedy of Youngstown.

Barbara was born in Youngstown, to John and Mary Kohut. She was a ballet student and teacher at Nian’s Dance Studio in Austintown and also taught ballet to the YSU gymnastics team. She studied ballet at the Youngstown Ballet Academy and was also was a ballet student and performer at Ballet Western Reserve.

Barbara graduated from Fitch High School in 1972, then moved to New York City, where she studied ballet under Margaret Craske at the Manhattan Festival Ballet Studio. In 1975, Barbara married the love of her life, Robert Kennedy, and also graduated from Youngstown State University.

Barbara served as a military wife volunteer and coordinator for the Marine Corps in support of Robert’s military career, moving 13 times, traveling all over the U.S. and overseas with her family. Barbara also taught preschool, served as an instructional assistant in special education, and also as an interpreting aide for deaf and hard of hearing and children with autism.

Barbara was a longtime resident of Coto de Caza and loved spending time walking the Coto Village with her husband, exploring nearby beaches and traveling. Barbara was the heart and soul of her family and will be remembered for her adventurous and joyful spirit, love of the arts, and her deep love and devotion to her family.

She leaves to cherish her memory, sister, Mary Yacovone (Ernie) of Austintown; brother, John Kohut (Eva) of Holmby Hills, Calif.; sister-in-law, Sandy Belliveau (Scott) of Grove City, Patty Fritz (JP) of Sunbury; brother-in-law, Ed Kennedy (Linda) of Hudson; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Mary Kohut; mother-in-law, Dolores Kennedy; brother, John Jr.; brother-in-law, John F. Kennedy; and her beloved papillons, Gracie and Nikki.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022, at St. Christine Catholic Church.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Organization for Autism Research or the Pacific Marine Mammal Center.
