Evelyn Jackson 1925-2023

A native and lifetime resident of Youngstown, she was born Dec. 1, 1925, the oldest of four children, to Ella Billue and Robert Guyton, and later raised by Daniel Atkinson. She attended Youngstown public schools and retired from Ohio Bell. She was a lifetime member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

She married the late Ray North, and to this union was born her only child, Debra North Sommerville. After his untimely death, she later married the late Henry Jackson, and together they raised their daughter, Debra.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brothers, Wendell Atkinson and Howard “Butch” Atkinson; and nephews, Cortland Allen and Derrick Atkinson.

Mrs. Jackson is sadly missed by her devoted daughter, Debra North Sommerville and son-in-law, Marco Sommerville Sr; loving brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Eugenia Atkinson; stepdaughter, Laverne Peterson; special cousin, Rosetta Eatman; wonderful grandchildren, Margo Sommerville (Pastor Aulden Knight), Shayla Sommerville Toulon and Marco Sommerville II; great grandchildren; devoted nieces, Lynette Miller and Cynthia Taylor; sister-in-law, Lugenia Atkinson Wilder; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023, with services immediately following at 10 a.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 707 Arlington St., Youngstown, OH 44510.
