Thomas A. Leschinsky 1947-2023

He was born May 21, 1947, in Youngstown, the son of Andrew and Margaret Swantek Leschinsky.

Tom was a 1965 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School. During summers in high school, he began working as a laborer and expeditor with his father, a bricklayer and foreman. Tom traveled to New York, Michigan, Illinois and California, helping with the construction of blast furnaces in steel mills around the country.

In 1966, he enlisted as a Marine and served a tour as a sergeant in Vietnam, along with his brother, George. Upon his return, Tom found employment at a pattern shop and attended courses at YSU before getting a job at General Motors in Lordstown, where he worked for 35 years. After retiring from GM, Tom worked as part-time rural mail carrier at the Masury post office.

He met his wife Anne at the Limelighter Lounge on April 1, 1971. They were married a little less than two years later, Feb. 3, 1973. Last February, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Tom was the father of two children, Michael and Maribeth. He was a devoted and supportive father and husband.

People knew Tom as a dedicated Browns fan, an avid golfer, a consummate griller and (in his younger days) an enthusiastic party planner. He and Anne’s garage and home hosted numerous Browns parties, birthdays and holiday celebrations on Helena Avenue in Youngstown during the late 70s and 80s, with their closest friends, Brad and Lorraine Hardman. Occasionally, Tom might show you a magic trick or two. He excelled at fixing just about anything and liked to work on solving mechanical issues and engineering puzzles. He made the best pancakes in Youngstown and he absolutely loved his daughter’s cinnamon rolls.

Tom was an optimistic and straight-talking person, occasionally writing editorials for the Vindicator or calling in to local radio talk shows to defend issues like unions and common-sense politics.

When he and Anne moved to Cortland, he became a member of St. Robert Catholic Church and served as treasurer of his condo board’s association for many years.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Anne Popp Leschinsky; a son, Michael Leschinsky and his wife, Bridget Fisher of Brooklyn, New York; a daughter, Maribeth Leschinsky and her husband, Jason Oblander of Orange Village, Ohio; a brother, George Leschinsky of Austintown; and four sisters, Margie Austalosh of Campbell; Carol Misik and her husband, Jack of Campbell; Dorothy Ladigo of Campbell; and Mary Zetts and her husband, Wayne of Campbell.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John Leschinsky.

Private services will be held at a later date.
