Paul Hartwig 1958-2024

YOUNGSTOWN — Paul Hartwig completed his earthly journey, Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, with his family by his side.

A proud North Side native, Paul was one of eight children who made Youngstown their playground. A 1976 graduate of Ursuline High School, he loved his time in the steel industry, and later, with the Mahoning Valley Community School working alongside one of his closest friends. His greatest joy was getting to share moments with his loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren “Babe” and Patricia Hartwig; brothers and sister, Tom, John and Mary Hartwig; brother-in-law, Jerry Resatar; and best friend, “C.R.” (Chuck Richards).

He is survived by the love of his life, Pam Scharrer; his treasures, his children, P.J. (Katrina), Jason and Kati Hartwig; the mother of his children and loving friend, Linda Hartwig; his adored stepdaughter, Kathleen (Robert) Graham; his close-knit siblings, Robert Hartwig, Bill Hartwig, Patty Resatar and Sue (Rich) Sferra; his loving granddaughters, Madison, Allison and Tenley Graham; and his cherished nieces and nephews, Cathi (Chuck) Christopher, Matt Resatar, Anthony (Tori) Sferra, Audrey Sferra, John (Courtney) Hartwig, Brian (KerriAnn) Hartwig and Stacy (John) Best.

Visitation will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, at St. Edward Roman Catholic Church, where, at noon, the Rev. Msgr. Robert Siffrin will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Paul will be remembered for his quick wit, love for the Cleveland Browns and Notre Dame Fighting Irish football, and the way he adored his family, friends and granddog, Lily. The memories he made with so many will live on through conversations and laughs shared over cold beers and a good slice of Youngstown pizza.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Paul’s memory to the American Heart Association and / or the American Cancer Society.

Paul’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Sandy Naples, a dear friend and family doctor for many years, and the ICU nurses at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, who cared for Paul and the family like their own.
