Emma Ruth Fellows 1928-2024
NEW SPRINGFIELD — Emma Ruth Prosser Fellows, 95, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2024, at Hampton Woods Assisted Living Center
She was married to Ralph Fellows Sr. for 75 years. They raised six sons and also fostered many children together.
As a young mother and homemaker, she later worked at the Brown Derby restaurant in Youngstown. In the late 1970s, she started working at Persings Taxidermy until she opened her own Old Barn Taxidermy business in New Springfield in the early 1980s, and was a taxidermist for decades.
She was a member of the Free Methodist Church in New Middletown and the Victory Church in Lowellville.
She went by her middle name, Ruth, all of her life. She will be remembered by her loved ones for all of her love and care over the years, including her infectious smile, her chili sauce that she canned every year, all of her family dinners and the ceramic Christmas gifts she made.
She was born April 30, 1928, in Youngstown, to the late David and Elsie Prosser. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph L. Fellows Sr.; and her siblings, Mary Jane Scott, Lillie Bell Mozzy, Elsie May Richardson and Betty Lou Powell.
She is survived by her sons, Ralph Jr. (Kathy) of Niles, James (Becky) of Columbiana, David (Debbie) of Austintown, Rod of North Benton, Ray (Sandy) of New Springfield and Jay (Karen) of New Middletown.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, 16 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 6 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2024, at Terry Cunningham Funeral Home, 203 Oak St., Bessemer, Pa. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to Hospice of the Valley or Hampton Woods Nursing Center.
