Luther A. Counts Jr. 1937-2024

Mr. Counts was born June 13, 1937, in Sharon, Pa., the son of Luther Counts Sr. and Madelyn Jackson Counts. He attended John Carroll University and was a United States Army Reservist for over six years.

He worked for Sherwin-Williams before working over 35 years at General Motors Lordstown, where he spent the majority of those years as a security officer.

Mr. Counts was a former member of St. Columba Cathedral and loved his wife and family dearly. He loved traveling, entertaining family and friends, and being a perfectionist in a host of activities.

Besides his wife, Wylene Counts, whom he married March 29, 1980, he is survived by his four daughters, Melissa Shaifer of San Francisco, California, Shannon Counts of Boardman, Dr. Terri (Curtis) Robinson of Rootstown and Shari Garner of Youngstown; his brother, Col. Clyde Counts of Tennessee; his grandchildren, Brian Shaifer, Drew Shaifer, Erica Hayden, Braxton Hymes, Morgan (Jeffrey) White, Dr. Summer W. Luckey and Sydne’ Robinson; his great-grandchildren, Jade White and Khyrie Silcott; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by siblings, Shirley Williams and Marilyn Taylor.

Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, with funeral services beginning at 10 a.m.
