Quincy Ann Penn 1932-2024

CANFIELD — Quincy Ann Penn passed away Monday, March 11, 2024, at 91 years old, approximately two months before her 92nd birthday.
Quincy lived in Canfield, at the Hunters Woods complex from 2007 until January 2023, when she moved to the assisted living complex, The Addison at Cornersburg, formerly known as Canfield Place, where she departed this life.
Quincy was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, William Oliver Penn, who passed in 2012. Her parents Quince and Willie Fleming, died in 1979 and 1990, respectively.
Quincy leaves her three sons and one daughter, Dr. James Erkard of Akron, Derek Penn of New York, New York, Karl (Shannon) Penn of Dayton and Celeste Erkard of Youngstown. She also leaves her dear sister, Shirley Parker. She will also be missed by grandsons, James, Gabriel, Eugene and Julian, as well as granddaughters, Kara and Angela. There are great-grandkids who will also miss the love of Quincy. The family wishes to thank Angelo and Melissa Ciminero and Barb Costello, neighbors of Quincy in her declining years, who exhibited outstanding love and caring for her.
Quincy was born April 19, 1932, in Memphis, Tennessee. She moved with her parents and sister, Shirley to Youngstown in 1940, when she was 7 years old. She attended Roosevelt Elementary School, Lincoln Middle School and East High School. Her first marriage ended in divorce and then she met William in 1957.
She attended Youngstown University and worked various part-time jobs while raising her children, most prominently at Lustig’s in downtown Youngstown. After her early offspring were off to school, she worked in the baby ward at South Side Hospital for 11 years. She stopped working at the hospital when her fourth child, Karl was born and she took a five-year break from the workforce. In 1971, she rejoined the workforce and became a full-time school teacher at Williamson School, where she worked for 22 years, retiring when she was 62.
Quincy was a member of Mount Zion Church in her early adult years and transitioned to Price Memorial Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. She moved to Centenary Methodist Church in 1957 and was a member there until that church ceased to exist. Her latest religious affiliation was as a member of the Millcreek Community Church.
Funeral services will be held at noon, with calling hours from 11 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Sterling-McCullough Williams Youngstown Chapel.
Burial will take place in Belmont Park Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to William.
