Delores Womack 1944-2024

WARREN — Mrs. Delores Womack, 80, transitioned from this earthly labor to her heavenly reward on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.

Mrs. Womack was born Feb. 25, 1944, in Tacoma, Washington, to Wesley R. and Maxine Love Barnard. She was a 1961 graduate of The Rayen School. After high school, she married Arnold Jerome Womack and reared five children. She accepted Christ in her life in her early 20s and led her life according to in her words, “the book.” Delores was a member of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ for many years. One of her greatest passions was being the leader of the Sunshine Band, where she positively impacted the youth.

Delores had a very impressive resume with a vast array of skills. Her passion for reading and education was bar none. She was the librarian at Maag Library at YSU for many years before becoming employed with the USPS, where she retired after 22 years.

Delores attended TCTC’s Practical Nursing Program where she received the Practical Nurse award in 2005 and was licensed to practice nursing in Ohio, Georgia and Pennsylvania. Delores served as a member of the Resident Council for the Raymond Wean Foundation and as a volunteer nurse during the pandemic for the Mahoning Valley Medical Reserves Corp.

In 2011, Delores attended YSU initially to pursue her Bachelor of Nursing degree but transferred over to social work. Delores graduated with her BA in social work Summa Cum Laude in 2016 at the age of 72, with a 4.0 GPA. Her activities and societies include Sigma Alpha Lambda, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Zeta Phi Alpha, Phi Kappa Phi, Dean’s List (7) and President’s List (2).

She enjoyed baking, crafts, gardening, bird watching and being with her grandchildren and family.

She leaves to mourn her passing, but to celebrate her life and legacy, her children, Arnold J. Womack Jr. and Reginald C. Womack, both of Cleveland; Deirdre D. Womack of Atlanta, Georgia, and Eva E. (Robert Jackson) Womack-Ibrahim of Youngstown; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Wesley R. Bernard Jr. of Indiana; a cousin, Lorraine Love; a nephew, Lester (Lenike) Lee; and a host of great-nieces and -nephews, and other family and friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David B. Womack; a sister, Gloria Weaver, and her husband of 30 years, Arnold Womack Sr.
