Steve H. Roth 1928-2024

YOUNGSTOWN — Steve H. Roth, 96, passed away peacefully, Thursday, May 9, 2024.

Steve was born April 20, 1928, in Youngstown, a son of Stephen and Maria Olenick Roth.

He attended Campbell Memorial High School. In later years, he took a business course at the New Castle School of Business. Steve was drafted into the United States Army at the age of 21. He served as a corporal during the Korean War, where he worked in ground transportation. He then went on to work in the steel mill and ended his career retiring as a machinist for United Engineering, which later became Wean United. He also served as an officer of the United Engineering Credit Union.

Steve met his wife, the former Edith Columbo, while she was working as a waitress, and they married July 25, 1953. They had 59 wonderful years together until she passed in 2012.

Throughout his life, Steve was always mechanically inclined. He loved to work on both cars and lawnmowers in his garage. People were always coming to him with something to repair.

Steve’s sport was golf. He played golf in the United Engineering Golf League while managing and coordinating all of the company leagues. Steve loved gardening, eating pizza and steak. His favorite vacation was a 13-week trip he took driving cross country. He also had a love for music, having played many instruments.

Steve was a longtime member of St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church in Youngstown.

Steve will be deeply missed and always remembered by his son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Diane Roth of Boardman; a grandson, Dr. Stefen Roth of Terrytown, New York; special grandchildren at heart, Alyssa (Derek) Streb of Boardman and Jarod Lanzo of Boardman; Janice and Lou Lanzo, who Steve considered as family; nieces, MaryAnn Leombruno, Paulette (Pat) Downy, Anita Puskarich, Darlene Marks, Lisa (Jason) Winebold; a nephew, Frank (Dee) Roth; many great-nieces and -nephews; and also his good friend, Dominic, whom he met when he moved into the Inn at Ironwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edith; a brother, Frank Roth; and sisters, Mary Nerone and Ann Konya.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at The Inn at Ironwood.

The Roth family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive friends 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the funeral home, followed by a funeral service officiated by the Rev. Vincent DeLucia.
