Anthony J. Caruso Sr. 1943-2024
WARREN — Anthony J. “Tony” Caruso Sr., 81, of Cortland, passed away Monday afternoon, July 8, 2024, at Gillette Nursing Home in Warren.
Tony was born March 14, 1943, in Dubois, Pa., a son of Anthony and Bernice Gillis Caruso.
He graduated from Lackawanna High School and Youngstown State University with a bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering.
Tony worked for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft, where he stayed for over 35 years. During his career, Tony oversaw numerous aspects of commercial and military jet engine manufacturing.
Outside of work, Tony was very active. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, coaching baseball and hunting. Tony was a Christmas light enthusiast known for his meticulous and creative decorating skills. Most of all, Tony loved his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Tony will always be remembered by his children, Dr. Anthony Jr. (Melissa) Caruso of Cortland and Suzanne (Chris) Copley of Aurora; seven grandchildren, Anthony, Gianna and Sofia Caruso, and Mason, Morgan, Mitchell and Matthew Copley; sisters, Barbara (John) Burkholder and Deborah Gibson; brothers-in-law, Donald Bracci and Robert Harris; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Dan) Beres and Marie Muisalowski, all of Buffalo, New York; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Joyce Caruso; brother, Alec Caruso; sister, Marlene Bracci; sister-in-law, Paula Harris; and brothers-in-law, Robert Musialowski and Al Gibson.
Family and friends may visit and pay tribute to Tony 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2024, at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel of Warren, 1884 North Road NE.
Additional calling hours will be 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at the funeral home.
A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Carl Kish presiding.
Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery in Bazetta.
