Dominic L. LoVaglio 1930-2024

YOUNGSTOWN — Dominic Louis LoVaglio, 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Sunday, Sept. 29, 2024.

Born Nov. 16, 1930, to Daniel “Walley” and Adeline “Rosetti” LoVaglio, Dominic lived a life filled with passion, love and unwavering dedication to those around him.

A proud graduate of East High School in 1949, Dominic served in the U.S. Navy from 1949 to 1950, embodying the values of service and commitment. On July 4, 1953, he married the love of his life, Anna Maria Turk LoVaglio, with whom he shared a beautiful 71-year journey filled with laughter, love and two wonderful sons, Dominic R. (Patricia) and Gregory R. (Barbara).

Dominic was a man of many passions. His professional career spanned 35 years at Sorce Inc., where he rose to the position of senior vice president before retiring in 1997. Not one to rest for long, he continued to work part time at V&V Appliance Parts for an additional 25 years, demonstrating his dedication and love for his craft.

Dominic was a passionate athlete who found joy in all sports, especially golf and bowling, competing with a spirit that inspired everyone around him. He achieved a remarkable 300 in bowling and a hole-in-one in golf. Dominic founded the LoVag Golf Group and managed all of the scheduling, handicaps and team prizes for more than 19 years. He also participated in the St. Christine Bowling and Golf League, proudly serving as president of both at one time.

A dedicated Cleveland sports fan, he took great pride in coaching and cheering for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dominic spent seven years coaching in the Mill City League, guiding teams in Little League and Pony League with unwavering enthusiasm.

His vibrant zest for life extended to his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Danielle LoVaglio (Adam) Caccavale, Dominic and Carmela; Nicole (Matthew) Schaefer, Hitch, Rory, Louie and Penelope; Justina (Andrew) McConnell, Avery and Harper; Davene LoVaglio-Hartman, Sydney, Elyn and Hudson; (Dirk) Hartman, Gregory (Natalie) LoVaglio, Bo Dominic and Brandon (Josey) Crues, and Milo; each of whom brought immense joy to his life.

Dominic’s heart was as big as his accomplishments. He dedicated countless hours to volunteering with St. Vincent de Paul (25 years) and the Dorothy Day House, and had been a member of the St. Christine Church community since 1956, reflecting his deep commitment to helping others and giving back to his community. His love for gardening was another testament to his nurturing spirit, as he tended to his plants with the same care he showed to his family and friends.

Dominic’s legacy of love, passion and community service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He leaves behind family and friends who will cherish his memory and honor his unwavering dedication to living life to the fullest.

The family would like to thank the “angels” at Harmony Hospice Care and Briarfield Manor who cared for Dominic in his final days.
