Elaine Hancock 1939-2024

BOARDMAN — Elaine Hancock, a loving, sweet and generous woman, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024, at Maplecrest Nursing Home in Struthers.

Born in the small town of Girty, Pa., in 1939, she was a daughter to the late Robert and Mary Kelly Jamison.

On March 28, 1959, Elaine married the love of her life, William “Bill” Hancock. In 1962, Elaine and Bill moved to Boardman where they would raise their three children.

Together, Elaine and Bill were blessed with 54 beautiful years of marriage until his passing in 2013.

Elaine was a member of AARP. She attended Westminster Presbyterian Church, Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church and finally, Cornerstone Presbyterian Church.

She will always be known for her compassionate nature, giving spirit and those darn pink cupcakes. If you ever had the opportunity to taste one of her homemade pies, you were a very blessed individual.

Throughout her life, Elaine held many names: wife, since the tender age of 19 to Bill; sister, to Robert, Merle and Barb Jamison; mom, to Karen, John, Loretta and Alicia; Memaw, to Brandon and Dalton Hancock; Meme, to Will and Lucas Lowery; and great-grandma, to Addy, Aiden, Bella, Ruthie and Emma. To everyone else, she was simply “mom.”

Bill and Elaine opened their home to foster over 30 children in Mahoning County from the early 1970s to the late 1990s. They were always surrogate parents for many school children, family friends and the neighborhood kids. Anyone who needed a parental figure in their lives, Bill and Elaine were there.

Calling hours will be held from 3 p.m. until the time of service at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2024, at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512. Pastor Mark Bell will officiate.

Interment will take place privately in Lake Park Cemetery.
