Eugene Yavorcik 1940-2024
YOUNGSTOWN — Eugene “Big Moose” Yavorcik, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024, at Hospice House.
Eugene was born Dec. 17, 1940, in Youngstown, the son of John and Helen Holecko Yavorcik.
He graduated from Wilson High School in 1958. He joined the U.S. Navy on Aug. 5, 1958, and served until Dec. 8, 1961.
Eugene married the love of his life, the former Darlene Goist, on Nov. 15, 1969.
He worked for East Ohio Gas as a district manager of the meter reader department. Starting there following his military service, he worked his way up from being a meter reader.
Eugene was of the Catholic faith and a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish-St. Matthias Church. He was a past member of the Eagles and a member of “The Original Teenie’s Tavern Club.”
He loved old cars and cutting the grass, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
Eugene will be deeply missed and always remembered by his wife, Darlene Yavorcik; his sons, Matthew Yavorcik of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Martin (Michelle) Yavorcik of Boardman; his grandson, Austin John Yavorcik of Charlotte, North Carolina; his brother, Dennis (Diane) Yavorcik of Campbell; his sister-in-law, Linda Fossesco of Boardman; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Private services were held Friday, Nov. 29, 2024.
