John F. Vidman 1946-2024
STRUTHERS — John Francis Vidman, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away Saturday evening, Nov. 9, 2024, at the age of 78.
“I was born, I lived my life, and then I died,” was all he wanted to be said. He knew we would never let that happen, so he’ll have to forgive us as we go into a little more detail.
John was born May 27, 1946, in Struthers, to Stephen E. and Mary Kopkash Vidman. He was a 1966 graduate of Struthers High School and served our country in the U.S. Army.
For over 35 years, John worked at Cold Metal Products until its closing in 2002. He worked part-time at the U.S. Post Office in Struthers.
On Oct. 18, 1980, John married his true love, Sharon Morgan, who preceded him in death, May 14, 2019. The family, including daughters Nanci and Heidi, made their home in Struthers.
John was an active member of Christ Our Savior Parish, making pirohy at the church and serving as lay Eucharistic minister at Mass.
He loved planting flowers and caring for the garden. John and Sharon spent many evenings walking their dog in the neighborhood and visiting with friends. They both enjoyed traveling and caring for animals in and around their home.
Each Sunday, John enjoyed meeting with his cousins, Steve and Chris Kopkash, Mary and Paul Kasper, and Ann and Joe Stanavich, for brunch.
John loved his two daughters and always looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren. Throughout the years he marked their height on the dining room archway and displayed photos of them in every room of the house. He was very proud of all their accomplishments.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brothers, Stephen Vidman and Fred Vidman; and his sister, Rita Stahl.
He is survived by his daughters, Nanci (Will) Green of Marietta and Heidi (Jimmie) Nichols of Boardman; and his grandchildren, Ryan Urban and Morgan Green of Marietta, and Tyler Patulak of Rogers, Arkansas. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Geri Vidman; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, 2024, at Christ Our Savior Parish-Holy Trinity Church, 250 N. Bridge St., Struthers, OH 44471, immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.
John’s family would like to thank Crossroads Hospice for their care, compassion and loving support. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in John’s memory to Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Drive, Suite E, Uniontown, OH 44685.
