Margaret J. Ayers 1929-2024

POLAND — Margaret Jane “Peg” Ayers, 95, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, at The Inn at Poland Way, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born June 1, 1929, in Salisbury, Pa., the daughter of William C. and Nettie Grace Poorbaugh Deist.

Peg began her career with the Pennsylvania State Department in Somerset, Pa. She went on to work in the HR department at Sears in the New Castle Towne Mall before transitioning to an administrative role at Liberty Mutual Insurance, from which she retired after 10 years. Her commitment to her work was evident and she exemplified professionalism and diligence throughout her career.

Education was important to Peg, who earned an associate degree in business, further strengthening her skills and providing a foundation for her professional endeavors.

In addition to her career, Peg had a vibrant array of hobbies and interests. She had a deep passion for dancing and was a proud member and past president of the Paws and Taws square dancing group, a role she enjoyed alongside her beloved husband. Peg also had a taste for travel and cherished the enjoyment of music in many forms.

Peg’s family was her greatest joy.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna (Chris) Graham of Poland; her son, Ronald B. (Terry) Ayers of North Canton; and five grandchildren, Kevin Graham of Hoboken, New Jersey, Jeffrey Graham of Seattle, Washington, Ryan (Erin) Ayers of Columbus, Shawn Ayers, also of Columbus, and Ashley Ayers Kroah (Jack) of Alliance.

Peg was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Donald B. Ayers, whom she married May 29, 1955, and who passed away March 31, 2003; as well as her brothers, Donald and Freeman Deist.

Family and friends may call 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2024, at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, 2726 Center Road, Youngstown, OH, 44514.

Peg will be buried in Poland Riverside Cemetery.
