Russell W. Humeniuk 1945-2024
CUMMING, Ga. — Russell Willi Humeniuk (aka Slauko) passed away Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024.
He was born Jan. 15, 1945, in Schweinfurt, Germany, son of Harry Humeniuk and Anna Priatka Humeniuk, Ukrainian nationals who were displaced from their homes during World War II. At the end of the war, they relocated to Ohio.
Russ was a 1963 graduate of Girard High School and a 1978 graduate of Youngstown State University with a major in criminal justice and a minor in psychology.
He worked at New York Life, Clarkins, and Youngstown Sheet and Tube, and at Lighthouse Mortgage and Bick’s Driving School in the Cincinnati area. He also raised his two sons so that his wife could pursue her career.
Russ lived in Lebanon, Ohio, for over 30 years, prior to moving to Cumming, Georgia, at the end of 2022. He was a member of Oasis Church in Middletown and continued as an online member after the move.
His favorite pastimes were family, music, video games, billiards and watching all types of sports. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns fan. His sons were raised on these teams and still carry on the tradition of watching each season. In his younger years, Russ was a caddy at the Mahoning Country Club. He also loved to play golf.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, and a brother, Dr. Harry Humeniuk.
He leaves his wife of 51 years, Linda Baker Humeniuk, whom he married May 5, 1973; two sons, Christopher (Jaclyn) of Cumming, Georgia, and David of San Diego, California; a granddaughter, Evelyn Marie Humeniuk of Cumming; and two brothers, William Humeniuk in Ohio and John Humeniuk in Florida.
