Sondra Lee Hecker 1956-2024
NILES — Sondra “Sandy” Lee Hecker, 68, passed away Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024, at Briarfield at Ashley Place, with her family by her side.
Born Jan. 8, 1956, in Youngstown, to the late Raymond G. and Elizabeth McGuire Edwards, she was a graduate of the Fairhaven Sheltered Workshop and also worked as an assembler for 40 years. She loved her job and the people she worked with. The workshop made it possible for her to participate in many sports and social activities, where she received many awards.
She loved to crochet, make crafts and sing Elvis’ songs. She loved her large family and extended family very much.
Her husband, Daniel L. Hecker, whom she married in 1992, preceded her in death, June 14, 2023.
Sandy leaves behind two sisters, Phyllis Kendall of Hubbard and Pat (Carl) Houdyshell of Salem; and sister-in-law, who was like another sister, Noreen Edwards of Youngstown; three brothers, Raymond G. Edwards Jr. of Austintown, Joseph (Phyllis Beharry) Edwards and Jack (Pam) L. Edwards of West Middlesex, Pa.; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews whom she loved dearly.
Besides her parents and husband, a brother, Kenneth Edwards; and three sisters, Mary Franklin, Nora Dougherty and Darlene Schuster, also preceded her in death.
Friends and family will be received 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home, 1014 E. State St., Salem, OH, 44460.
The funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Hershall Bellows officiating.
