Stanley Jones 1941-2024
YOUNGSTOWN — Mr. Stanley J. Jones departed this life and went to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024.
Mr. Jones was born July 12, 1941, in Youngstown, to Leona and William Jack Jones.
He spent four years in the U.S. Coast Guard as a hospital corpsman / medic.
After the military, he received his bachelor’s degree from Youngstown State University and a master’s degree in philosophy from Kent State University.
Mr. Jones spent four years as a certified lab assistant at St. Joseph Warren Hospital and 27 years as a certified medical lab technician at Trumbull Memorial Hospital, from where he retired in 1996.
After retirement, Mr. Jones spent the next 15 years as a state-certified instructor of phlebotomy and medical terminology at Choffin Career Center. He also taught microbiology for four years at National College and spent 10 years as a phlebotomy instructor and a teacher of anatomy and physiology at TCTC before finally retiring in 2016.
Mr. Jones was the founder and owner of Yozona Martial Arts Karate Club of Youngstown, where he taught and instructed in Isshin-ryu karate. He also developed and implemented a martial arts program for at-risk children in the Youngstown City Schools after-school program.
Mr. Jones and his wife, Darlene, have been members of Victory Church for the past 14 years. Before joining Victory, they and their children were 20-year members of the Word in Action Church of Campbell (Bishop Wm. R. Burney).
Mr. Jones leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 38 years, Darlene; four children, Marcella Jones of Hampton, Virginia, Stanley Jones Jr. (Netrah) of Austintown, Tiffany Yarboro (Justin) of Cleveland and Natale Pierce (Johnathon) of Columbus; 12 grandchildren, Ashleigh, Mareo, Stan III, Asia, Alexus, Julian, Justus, Myles, T’erron, Corey, Mason and Maverick; two great-grandchildren, Lamont and Ka’lani; 13 sisters and brothers-in-law, whom he loved dearly, including a beloved sister-in-law, Ramatha Davis of North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.
Besides his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by his brother, the Rev. Eldrick Davis of North Carolina.
Visitation will be 2 to 3 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024, at Victory Church, 3899 McCartney Road, Lowellville, OH 44436, with funeral services to follow at 3 p.m.
