Ann Klein 1936-2024
AUSTINTOWN — Ann Klein, 87, passed away peacefully, early Saturday morning, Dec. 7, 2024.
Ann was born Dec. 16, 1936, in Ploska, Ukraine, a daughter of the late Wasyl and Mary Homick Kichton. She emigrated to the United States as a child and settled in the Youngstown area, where she would later build a life rooted in love, family and community.
She was a proud graduate of Chaney High School, Class of 1955, and devoted her adult life to raising and caring for her beloved family, finding joy in nurturing those around her.
A dedicated and active member of SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Youngstown, Ann enriched her community through tireless participation in church activities. Whether working bingo nights, preparing kolachi for fundraisers and holidays, or serving with the St. Mary’s Sisterhood, Ann’s efforts touched many lives. Her faith and devotion to her parish were unwavering.
Beyond her church involvement, Ann was a member of the Saxon Club and gave her time generously to organizations like the Boy Scouts of America and the school PTA when her children were young. Her legacy of service and compassion lives on in her family and those who knew her.
She enjoyed bowling, golfing, cooking and baking, and was especially renowned for her Christmas cookies and birthday cakes, which brought smiles to countless family gatherings and celebrations.
Ann is survived by her two sons, John C. (Judy) Klein of Granville and Robert (Bonnie) Klein of Lebanon; a daughter, Maryann (Thomas) Mott of Powell; and seven grandchildren, Garrett, Cailin, Steffan, Kiana, Colin, Joshua and Jillian; a sister-in-law, Pat Kichton of North Jackson; and several extended family members.
Her husband of 66 years, George R. Klein, whom she married Nov. 15, 1958, died Sept. 13, 2024.
Two brothers, Leo and Nicholas Kichton; and a sister, Olga, also preceded Ann in death.
Family and friends may gather to pay respects 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2024, at SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1025 N. Belle Vista Ave., Youngstown, where funeral services will begin at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow in SS. Peter and Paul Parish Cemetery.
