Barbara R. McDonald 1929-2024
CANFIELD — Barbara R. McDonald, 95, died peacefully, Monday, Dec. 9, 2024, at The Inn at Ironwood.
She was born Nov. 10, 1929, in Youngstown, a daughter of John Taft and the former Doris James.
Barbara was a 1948 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, where she showcased her talent for music as a member of the high school choir. Her musical gift brought joy to many as she performed in a trio on the radio and at weddings during her teenage years.
She continued her passion for singing in the choir at Austintown Community Church.
Her kind spirit was reflected not only in her music but also in the warmth of her kitchen, where she became known for her remarkable baking skills, especially her beloved Welsh cookies and famous vegetable soup.
Barbara had a love for reading. She found great joy in crocheting and nurturing her garden.
Barbara dedicated 13 years as a bank teller at Farmers National Bank.
She married Robert Allen McDonald on Sept. 2, 1950; he preceded her in death, Feb. 22, 2011.
In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her son, Timothy “Corky” McDonald; and her brother, John “Tim” Taft.
Barbara is survived by her two daughters, Janey (Jack) Donadee of Canfield and Kelly (Kent) Ruble of Martinsburg, W.Va.; eight grandchildren, Barbara McDonald, Jenny (Tom) Harper, Chenell (Andy Muha) Donadee, Jacob (Alexendra) Donadee, Jonathan (Jhi Young Joo) Donadee, Jesse (Wynn) Butler, Raymond (Pamela) Butler and Michael (Linsday) Butler; 14 great-grandchildren; and her loving sister-in-law, Virginia “Ginger” Taft.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
