Jean E. Detec, 1947-2024
STRUTHERS — Jean E. Detec, 77, of Coitsville Township, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024, at Select Specialty Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Born Sept. 20, 1947, in Youngstown, she was a daughter of the late John McAllister and Justina Kratofil.
On Nov. 28, 1969, Jean married the love of her life, Richard Detec, and together were blessed with 56 wonderful years of marriage. She spent many years raising her three children in a home full of love and teaching them life’s important values.
Jean was always proud of her Belfast Irish heritage and was an avid Notre Dame fan. She enjoyed punching her card at bingo, watching horse races, volunteering at The Rich Center and listening to The Beach Boys. You could always find her in the kitchen baking dozens of her famous kolache that she would give away to her friends and family.
Above all, Jean cherished her time with her family and hosted Sunday dinner each week for them. There was no doubt she was proud of being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
In addition to her husband, Richard, she is survived by her children, Rich Salensky of Youngstown, Kelly (Roger) Willis of Austintown and Lawrence (Donna) Fain of Ravenna; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris Fain of Georgia, Jane (Ron) Walker of Florida and Betsy Langston of Florida; and brother, Larry (Patty) Lissi of Lowellville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Bill Salensky; and sister, Fran Szenborn.
Calling hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2024, at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St., Struthers, OH 44471, where a memorial service will follow at 6 p.m.
