Mary F. Deeds 1935-2024
YOUNGSTOWN — Mary F. Deeds, 89, of the city’s West Side, passed away peacefully, Sunday afternoon, Dec. 22, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.
Mary was born Dec. 18, 1935, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late James R. Durkin and Edna I. Daley Durkin. She remained a lifelong resident of the area, devoted to her family, friends and community.
Mary graduated from East High School and spent a decade working at Robbins Furniture Store while dedicating herself to raising her family. She was a proud member of St. Brendan Church and formerly an active participant in the Saxon Club and the Moose Club of Warren #186.
A woman of many passions, Mary enjoyed baking delicious treats, trying her luck at the casino and cheering enthusiastically for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Deeply proud of her Irish heritage, she enjoyed celebrating St. Patrick’s Day every year and she cherished the joy of family gatherings, especially the time spent with her loved ones.
Mary is survived by her two sons, David A. (Dottie) Deeds Jr. of Strongsville and Michael P. (Laura) Deeds of Alexandria, Virginia; her daughter, Jennifer N. Deeds of Austintown; three grandchildren, Samantha (Antonio) Montemarano, Erik Deeds and Summer Deeds; five great-grandchildren, Landen, Jackson, Grayson, Sebastian and Audrey; five siblings, Edward (Mary) Durkin, Joseph Durkin, John Durkin, Edna (Dane) Carder and Anne Hiester; and many extended family members.
Her husband of 62 years, David A. Deeds, whom she married June 11, 1955, died Sept. 2, 2017.
Three siblings, Robert Durkin, Rayma Hancock and James Durkin, also preceded Mary in death.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024, at the funeral home and continue with a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Brendan Church, 2800 Oakwood Ave., Youngstown.
Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Austintown, where Mary will be laid to rest beside her husband.
In lieu of flowers, Mary’s family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Mahoning County Public Special Olympics, P.O. Box 94, Canfield, OH 44406.
