Patricia R. Patterson 1945-2024

AUSTINTOWN — Patricia Rose Patterson, 79, departed this life Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024.

Born May 29, 1945, in Youngstown, to the late Joseph and Philomena Altiere Pehm, Patty’s journey began in a city that would witness her growth into a remarkable individual. She graduated from East High School in 1963. She met Kenneth “Ken” Patterson while attending East High School and they were married Dec. 26, 1963, celebrating 49 years of marriage until his death on Oct. 25, 2012.

After closing out her career with Ohio Bell, she returned to Youngstown State University to earn her Bachelor of Science nursing degree and spent the majority of her career working at St. Elizabeth’s, culminating as the manager of the infection prevention and control services unit, ensuring that the highest standards of care and safety were upheld for all patients.

She shared her love of baking with her grandchildren, including most recently making pizzelles for the holidays with Catherine, set up on her kitchen table.

Throughout her life, she enjoyed bowling, quilting and needlework, and gardening. After retirement, she enjoyed crocheting, creating gifts for her family and friends. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, particularly Sunday dinners together.

Patty’s spirit was indomitable, exemplified not only through her career but in her personal life as well. She was the beloved mother of Kenneth Patterson Jr. of Austintown and Brian (Holly) Patterson of Greenville, Pa. Her unwavering love extended to her grandchildren, Victoria, Catherine, Joshua and Brianna Patterson, who were the light of her life and who will remember her not only for her guidance, but for the warmth and joy she bestowed upon them. She is also survived by her cherished sister, Mary Jo Sikora of Columbiana, whose bond with Patty provided strength and kindness throughout the years.

Patty was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Philomena Altiere Pehm; and her husband, Ken, whose legacy of love and values she carried forth in her own life, influencing those fortunate enough to know her.

As we gather to celebrate her life, family and friends will have the opportunity to pay their respects during visitation 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2024, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, 3701 Starr’s Centre Drive, Canfield.
