Richard Sherock 1950-2024
GIRARD — Richard Sherock, 74, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024, at home.
Richard was born March 20, 1950, in Youngstown, a son to Nicholas and Betty Kovachik Sherock.
Richard was a graduate of Girard High School, Class of 1968. Immediately out of high school, Rick worked for approximately 10 years at US Steel in McDonald until its closing. He then went to work at General Motors.
An avid sports enthusiast, Richard was actively involved in various local leagues. He was a member of the IFH Club, participated in the Tod Park and Royal Gardens bocce leagues, and played softball for several teams. Notably, he was a key player on the over-50 fastpitch hardball teams. He also took great pride in his role as an outstanding quarterback for the Girard alumni football team. Many considered Rick to have the best throwing arm in football and baseball. Richard also enjoyed listening to all kinds of music.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia “Nindy” Yotsnukis Sherock; his mother, Betty Sherock of Girard; his daughter, Melissa (Donny) Ward of Liberty Township; and his grandchildren, Dylan, Evan and Zachery. He also leaves behind his siblings, including sisters, Debbie Guthrie of Columbus, Julie (Steve) Stanec of Austintown and Christine (Carl) Racketa of Girard; and brothers, Mark (Diane Kirk) Sherock of Centennial, Colorado, Nicholas (Jennifer) Sherock of Canal Fulton and David (Karen) Sherock of Girard; and an aunt, Theresa Sherock; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive relatives and friends 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024, at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, with a service led by family to follow.
