Robert P. Hackley 1938-2024
POLAND — Robert Paul Hackley, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully Monday morning, Dec. 16, 2024.
Bob was born May 12, 1938, in Woodsfield, to Robert Sr. and Dorothy Dillon Hackley. He graduated from Canton McKinley High School in 1956 and Mount Union College in 1960.
While at Mount Union, Bob was a member of the M Club, playing basketball and baseball, Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity and Blue Key Senior Honorary.
He married his college sweetheart, Judy Shaw, in 1960, after graduation. (Bob told her he wasn’t leaving without her!) Together they raised three children and happily celebrated 64 years of marriage.
After graduating from Ohio Northern University College of Pharmacy in 1963, Bob worked at various local pharmacies until opening Hackley Pharmacy in Struthers, a community he loved. He worked there until his retirement.
Bob was a longtime member of Poland Presbyterian Church, where he had served as deacon.
Bob loved spending time with his family, here and in Siesta Key, Florida. Bob was also an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan. His greatest passion though was spending time with his six grandchildren and attending all their sporting, cheerleading, dance and singing events.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Judy Hackley; his daughters, Lisa (Edward) Hansen of Littleton, Colorado, and Laurie Koewler of Poland; son, Robert S. (Deborah) Hackley of Kent; six grandchildren, Cole (Bri) Hansen and Chase Hansen of Littleton, Colorado, Wesley Koewler of Denver, Colorado, Miranda Koewler of Chicago, Illinois, and Jake and Lauren Hackley of Kent; and his brother-in-law, Dale English of Woodsfield.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Susan English.
A private family ceremony celebrating Bob’s life was held at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland, with the Rev. Stacie Maynard officiating. Interment followed in Poland Riverside Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Valley-Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, OH 44514.
