Ann E. Auer 1936-2025
BOARDMAN — Ann Elizabeth Breza Auer died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025, at home, surrounded by her family, at the age of 88.
She was born Jan. 27, 1936, in Smock, Pa. The day Ann was born, there was a record-breaking snowstorm. Her father would tell the story of how he had to run through a blizzard to fetch the doctor.
Her beloved husband, Frank Donald Auer, whom she married March 2, 1957, died in March 2005.
Ann and Frank traveled together and were model parents, always promoting education. They were prime examples of wisdom, love and patience.
Ann graduated from Uniontown, Pa., High School, after which she moved to Cleveland to work as a secretary, where she met her husband. Ann also worked in the Boardman Center Middle School cafeteria.
She was a wonderful homemaker and devoted friend. She was kind and thoughtful, always able to put a positive spin on even the dreariest situation.
Ann never came to your house empty-handed and you never left her house empty-handed. She believed in handwritten letters and always wrote to friends and relatives, especially on their birthdays. She did her best trying to keep up with the times by taking computer classes, sending emails, using FaceTime and texting. She loved her daily visits to Dunkin’ Donuts and knew the workers by name. She loved to sew, quilt, garden, read, cook, do puzzles and play games (especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren).
Ann and Frank were longtime members of the Saxon Club and St. Christine Roman Catholic Church.
Surviving are three children, Donna (David) Blystone of Canfield, Carol (David) Herron of Salem and Thomas (Jamie) Auer of Wildwood, Missouri. Ann was blessed with seven grandchildren, John Blystone, Breanne (Daniel) Gilmartin, Rachel (Justin) Benson, Dr. Samantha Nesnidol (fiance, Jason Axelson), Timothy (Mia) Nesnidol, Dr. Andrew Auer (fiancee, Mikaela McDonald) and Marshall Auer. She was also proud of her six great-grandchildren, with another due in July. Ann also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, two step-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren and many close friends. A brother-in-law, Gerald “Che Che” Cimini of California, also survives.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Tomko Breza; and eight siblings, Paul (Irene) Breza, Agnes (Tony) Leganshuk, John Breza, Mary (John) Hashier, Martha (George “Bunny”) Ponzurick, Monica Cimini, Rita (Claude “Juny”) Stout and Ethel (George) Brown, and an infant sister who died at birth.
Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2025, at Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home, 3100 Canfield Road, Youngstown.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025, at St. Christine Church, with visitation 9:30 to 11 a.m.
Ann will be laid to rest next to her husband, Frank, in Resurrection Cemetery in Youngstown.
Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home handled all of the arrangements for the family.
