Camille C. Gaia Jr. 1934-2025

AUSTINTOWN – Camille Carl Gaia Jr., 90, passed away Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025.

Camille was born Jan. 29, 1934, in Mt. Pleasant, Pa., the son of Camille and Rose Gaia.

After graduating high school, he moved to Youngstown, settling in Campbell to work as a tile setter and bricklayer. He joined the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union and later became a teacher of small engine repair and building maintenance at Tod Vocational School.

He served in the U.S. Army, based in Germany, from 1956 to 1958, where he earned a Good Conduct medal.

On Sept. 15, 1956, he married the former Mary Ann Matvey in Campbell, where they resided until 2007.

After retirement, Camille liked to spend time playing poker and talking politics with friends, gardening, or going to auctions and flea markets. He was known as the neighborhood “fix it man.” He especially loved spending time with family at the beaches on the Carolina coast.

Camille will always be remembered lovingly by his four children, Debra Scribbens, Camille Gaia III, Michelle Williams and Michael Gaia; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann; and four brothers, Richard, Jack, Larry and Patrick.

The family will receive relatives and friends 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2025, at St. John the Baptist Church, 159 Reed Ave. in Campbell, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman.
