Forrest J. Cavalier Jr. 1937-2025

EFFORT, Pa. — Forrest J. “Smokey” Cavalier Jr., 87, formerly of Youngstown, passed away Friday, Jan. 17, 2025, at Brookmont HealthCare Center in Effort.

Forrest was born on June 13, 1937, in Youngstown, a son of the late Forrest J. Cavalier Sr. and Anne Alexander Cavalier.

All his life he worked as a social director at several resorts in the Poconos, starting at Honeymoon Haven in Dingmans Ferry, The Summit in Tannersville, Pocono Palace in Marshalls Creek, Paradise Stream in Cresco and Brookdale in Scotrun.

Forrest was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Stroudsburg.

We have been blessed with the presence of Forrest in our lives.

He will be missed by his children, Forrest J. “Sparky” Cavalier III and spouse Nina of Saylorsburg, Pa.; Patrick K. Cavalier of Las Vegas, Nevada; and Christine A. Cavalier-Purpura and spouse Gary of Havertown, Pa.

He is also survived by six grandchildren, Augustin, Ambrose and Marcellina Cavalier, Patrick A. Cavalier, Lyrica and Lucas Purpura; a sister, Rosemary Allegretto and spouse Joseph of Boardman; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 818 Main St., Stroudsburg, Pa.

Family and friends are welcome to offer condolences from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025, at the church.

Forrest will be laid to rest at the Gilbert Cemetery in Gilbert.
